Children at Risk / Street Children Work
|Name:||Street Children Work|
|Project Type:||Children at Risk|
It's hard to understand that children actually live on the street. In most African countries it is not just one or two: it is thousands. They arrive on the street for many different reasons; abuse, orphaned, lost - but once there, they all face the same challenge: Survival.
What is Abaana Doing?
Since January 2007, Abaana has been running a day program (Street-Reach) for street children in Kampala. We play games, tell bible stories, give basic medical care, and provide a good meal. This project shows the children a love that they haven't experienced in years. Every week more and more children gather in the field. Our long term goal is to get as many of these children as possible into good homes; but until this happens we want to make sure we provide help and support on the street. We plan to give these children vitamins regularly, take those with medical problems to the hopital, and continue to feed them as long as we have funds.
