Abaana out in force at the 2009 Belfast Marathon
On May Day Monday Abaana supporters joined the crowds taking part in the 2009 Belfast Marathon, raising thousands of pounds towards our school building projects this year.
Runners
At least 2 brave fellows completed the full 26.2 miles for Abaana - Joel Marcus completing in 3:41:43 and Craig McQuade completing in 3:27:54.
They started at the City Hall at 9am and weaved their way around the streets of Belfast in the wind and rain to finish at Ormeau Park a few hours later.
Relay
At least 2 teams got together to do the marathon relay. One team even sported fetching cartoon character costumes as they ran! Our oldest relay runner, Tom Baker, turned 66 on the day! The rest of his team consisted of Neil Watson, and first time runners Phil Reid, Claire Lusk & Tania Kelly-Baker. The second team was made up of Karl Williams, Julie Gould, Peter McDonald, Dawn McDonald, and Jonny Boyd.
Walkers
Around 15 people did the 9 mile walk through Belfast, the majority of which had been talked into it by Abaana team leader, David Allen, to raise funds for Lweeza Primary in Uganda. Other walkers included Shirley McCormick and Paul Ross, raising funds for a nursery at Matthew Cardwell Primary in Uganda.
