No charity organisation can run without people. Abaana has a fantastic team of people – a board of trustees, a staff team and many volunteers. These people are at the heart of our organisation. They are passionately committed and dedicated to the vision of Abaana working to deliver life changing projects to those who need it most.

Founder & CEO

Scott provides overall leadership and strategic direction for the work of Abaana in the UK and also serves as International Director on the Board of Abaana Uganda.
Scott is driven by his passion for making genuine and lasting change to the lives of boys and girls living in poverty in Uganda.

Fiona Baxter

PA

Fiona is the longest serving staff member of Abaana, having joined in 2004. As well as her role as PA to the CEO, she is responsible for a range of key areas across the organisation including Gift Aid, accounting and providing support to staff across all departments.

Finance Manager

Stephen joined the team in 2023 and is involved with the strategic leadership and hands–on financial management. He ensures Abaana’s operations are efficient, transparent, and aligned with our Christian values.

Teams Coordinator

Louise joined Abaana in 2015 and is responsible for leading all work in relation to the Abaana teams travelling to Uganda. This area of work has grown substantially – to the point where currently, on average, 8 teams a year travel out to Uganda to work across Abaana’s projects. Louise also has lead UK responsibility for New Life Homes and Abaana’s Street Reach programme.

Child Sponsorship Coordinator

Chris joined the Abaana team in 2019 and has lead responsibility for administering and developing Abaana’s Child Sponsorship scheme. This includes providing an on–going service to Abaana’s existing sponsors and encouraging new sponsors to join the scheme and provide access to education for so many more children.

Leanne recently joined the team in 2023, and is responsible for the day to day administration of the office. This includes maintaining databases, responding to queries, assisting in preparing for fundraisers and helping with any other office needs.

Brian manages cash, as well as providing support in financial data entry. He also makes everyone’s job a little easier by providing administrative support in all areas to enhance the smooth running of the office (purchases, paying utilities, etc)

Education and Sponsorship Manager

 Irene oversees all processes and planning so that activities related to supporting partner schools and sponsorship of children is done efficiently and effectively.

Sponsorship Systems Coordinator

Peter K coordinates sponsorship activities that cross the regions and departments, such as letter writing, gifts and special activities, being the point of contact for queries and managing the sponsorship database.


 

Gill Olaaka

Technical Consultant

Originally from Ireland, though based in Uganda since 2002, Gill was the CEO for Abaana Ministries between 2012 and 2024, when she handed over leadership to a newly appointed Executive Director. She continues to provide ad hoc support as a part–time Technical Consultant, focusing on governance, finances, and compliance.

Executive Director

Wanjala (or ‘Yoko’), appointed in August 2024 as the Executive Director after 10 years as the Programme Manager, provides overall direction and leadership to Abaana Ministries, ensuring that the organisation runs smoothly in all areas. He provides the link between the Board and the staff, as well as being the chief liaison with the UK office, and also represents the organisation externally.

Finance & Administration Manager

Esther leads the accounting function through recording all financial transactions, keeping records, carrying out functions such as bank reconciliations, preparing for Audit, and creating quarterly financial reports.

Partnership Development Manager

Susan progressed from a Sponsorship Coordinator to overseeing special projects that heavily inform resource mobilisation, including overseeing Choirs, visiting donors and Teams, special sponsorships, and the Guesthouse.

Sponsorship Coordinator – Central

Hannah provides the sponsorship function in the central region with responsibility for scholastic materials, giving of gifts, letter writing and other direct contact activities for sponsored children.

Education and Sponsorship Coordinator – Eastern

Andrew provides the sponsorship function with responsibility for scholastic materials, giving of gifts, letter writing and other direct contact activities for sponsored children, being a point of contact for eastern schools.

Education Coordinator

Peter W helps the schools improve in their education delivery through monitoring their financial spending, promoting Christian activities in all schools, problem solving and capacity building; he also supports tertiary sponsorship in the central region (including apprenticeships)


 

Sarah Arao

Programme Manager

Sarah was the New Life Homes Manager for nearly 10 years before her appointment as the Programme Manager in February 2025. She is responsible for managing the department heads in their delivery of programme activities including sponsorship, school construction, and rehabilitation of street–connected children.

Social Worker – Resettlement

Joseph leads the work of children entering and exit the New Life Homes through reaching out to children living on the streets, tracing homes, working towards the reunification of boys back to their families and building up family structures as well as providing on–going care for resettled children.

Social Worker – Sponsorship

Eddie is a social worker who provides some residential care while providing a sponsorship function particularly for boys in primary boarding and secondary school.

Guesthouse Overseer

Fionah heads up the Guesthouse through providing meals, hosting teams and visitors and keeping the environment hygienic and welcoming.

New Life Homes House Mother

Harriet provides stability as a mother figure at the New Life Homes, with her main role being to cook meals and provide a hygienic environment while giving care to boys.

Godfrey Ekwaro

New Life Homes Night Guard

Godfrey provides security at the New Life Homes to ensure a safe environment, as well as participating in the boy’s care where appropriate.

Ronald Obara

Social Worker – Residential Care

Ronald progressed from being a part–time cover staff to being responsible for providing suitable physical, pastoral and emotional care for the former street–connected boys while resident at the New Life Homes.
