1 BILLION PEOPLE THROUGHOUT THE WORLD LIVE IN POVERTY

This Christmas when we sit down to open our presents and eat our Christmas dinner, many across the world will struggle for just anything to eat.

This is not right! We think it should change and we want to invite you to be that change.

This Christmas we want 500 people to take part in Challenge 48.

Give 24-48 hours of your time to children in poverty and raise money for children in poverty.

To really know someone's situation,
you need to walk in their shoes.

Abaana wants to do that through these 2 main events

and raise money and awareness for our Projects:

1. Rescuing children from the streets

2. Providing clean water

3. Educating children

Sponsored Fast
Sleep On The Streets
Sponsored Walk

Find out first-hand the hunger street kids feel on a daily basis by joining in our 48-hour fast. If you can’t manage 48 hours try 24 or 12.

On the 7th - 9th December we are running our annual sleep out on the streets of Bangor. Put yourself in these children’s shoes and find out what it is like to sleep on the streets.

On 8th December we are walking up to 10km in both Bangor and Lisburn. However, you can get a group of friends together and do this anywhere!

IF THESE 3 EVENTS AREN’T FOR YOU, THERE ARE A FEW MORE SUGGESTIONS BELOW, OR YOU CAN EVEN BE CREATIVE AND MAKE UP YOUR OWN CHALLENGE.

When it comes to poverty it seems that many kids in Africa have no voice.

“Actions speak louder than words”. We want you to speak for them, by saying nothing! In fact say nothing for two days.

Can you go for 48 hours without saying a word? Tape up your mouth and bring some signs on cards with you.

Prepare your appeal with photos and cards. How much can you raise without saying a word?!

Over 48 hours the average person will have worked for two days or 14 hours. We want to challenge you for 48 hours to go to work - not to pay your mortgage or put food on your table. Not to pay for a holiday or your Sky subscription. For 48 hours we want you to work for children who have nothing!

The 48 hour challenge is to donate your earnings (*£95) for those two days.

If you really wanted to up the challenge you can give a week’s wages ( 48 hours actually working around *£330). * Figures based on minimum wage

Our homes are full of gadgets.. We love them and we wonder how we could live without them.

If you took some of those gadgets to a rural African village, they would admire the pretty box shape and box, but what would they be used for? The ipad would make a good place mat, The Xbox could make a nice stool.

All our gadgets are signs of how rich we have become. For 48 hours can you live with no technology? No TV, no mobile phone, no microwave, no oven, no hot showers, no eating refrigerated food. You are allowed central heating.

For 48 hours we challenge you not to wear socks or shoes*

Many children in Africa walk up to 10 miles a day barefoot. For us the problem is what to wear. We often have 5, 10, 20 or more shoes in the cupboard, but still we can’t decide.

But for many children they don’t have shoes at all. Most of the injuries we see with street kids are relating to feet. Standing on glass, dropping items on them, and with no protection they won’t heal.

We are challenging you for 48 hours to go without shoes or socks. It will be cold. It could be sore, but people will ask why you are doing it. Be ready to tell them. Hope it doesn’t snow!!

* Not advised while driving or if walking long distances outside in winter.
